The Perils of Amateur Astrology

This piece accompanies an article in the Magic Issue by Jess Farrugia. She discusses the anxiety that can develop from a dependence on astrology apps for guidance.
I chose the last rough as it felt like the best representation of astrology with the stargazing. I wanted to create a sense of oppressing anxiety, with a character to represent the main target audience for these apps - millenial/gen z women who are feeling a lack of control in their life.
Counterpoint is risograph-printed, and this issue’s colours were fluro pink, purple, and teal. I overlayed the shapes of the cloud in various opacities, then erased the astrology symbols from each colour layer separately to give an imperfect, gritty effect.
